What is the Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) Hub?

The BMD Hub is a project coordinated by the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre at Newcastle University, funded by Edgewise Therapeutics. It is based on the successful model of the DMD Hub, a collaborative project between the JWMDRC and Duchenne UK, which is now being rolled out to support clinical research and recruitment for patients with Becker Muscular Dystrophy.

The BMD Hub, in collaboration with UK patient organisations with an interest in dystrophinopathies, is aiming to develop a network of clinical care and research sites in the UK interested in and capable of delivering clinical trials in Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD).

The BMD Hub aims to promote clinical trial readiness in BMD, by supporting sites in setting up and running clinical trials, facilitating a more equitable access to clinical research to patients with BMD, and addressing specific industry needs.

Through the creation of this network and addressing educational gaps among healthcare professionals, patients, and families, the BMD Hub endeavours to facilitate the implementation of care in BMD, providing an opportunity to develop standardised assessments and care guidelines.
